Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival - Istanbul - Troy (D) 285 KM
After your arrival to Ataturk Airport,meet with local guide.Transfer to Troy.Then we will visit legendary Troy where you can see a replica of the wooden horse. Once thought to be the figment of literary imagination, Troy was uncovered due largely to the efforts of Heinrich Schliemann, who steadfastly believed in its existence, using his own money to successively uncover nine different settlements in Troy. Free time and Overnight in Troy.
Day 2 Troy-Bergama-Izmir (B/L/D) 305 KM
After bireakfast,drive to Pergamon and north to the hauntingly beautiful Pergamon. Among the impressive structures of this city, dating from 299 BC, we will see the Trajaneum, Altar of Zeus, Temple of Dionysus, Theater and the 200,000 volume library which was surpassed only by that found in Alexandria at the time. The Asclepieum of Pergamon was a famous health center where methods of treatment included blood transfusions, music therapy and meditation.We will finish our day with a visit the archaeological remains of the ancient city of Smyrna. Smyrna was one of the Seven Churches that the Apostle John relays the promise from God: “Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life”.Then visit the Church of St. Policarp in Izmir. Overnight in Izmir.
Day 3 Izmir-Kusadasi (B/L/D) 95 KM
After breakfast,start to visit to the House of the Virgin Mary on top of Mt. Coressos. It is believed that she spent years in this area. On August 18, 1961, Pope John XXII proclaimed this place as sacred. We continue our visit in Ephesus, the once thriving port town of 250,000 people. Today, you can still see the spectacular excavations of the major streets in this ancient city including the view of the Library of Celcius, Agora, Temple of Hadrian, the Fountain of Trajan, the Theatre, colorful mosaics. You can also see the panoramic view of the surrounding ancient port area including a wealth of church history and cultural insight. Then we will also visit the Basilica of St. John the Evangelist who came here with the Virgin Mary and wrote his Gospels in Ephesus.Overnight in Kusadasi.
Day 4 Kusadasi-Pamukkale (B/L/D) 195 KM
Breakfast and check-out at the hotel. We will have s short stop in Thyatira to view the ancient roadway and period columns. This is one of the principal towns where Christianity spread quickly. Then we drive to Sardis. Sardis was berated by John for its façade of strength when in reality, it was weak Here, coins were minted and the dyeing of wood originated. We’ll visit the Temple of Artemis to see the gymnasium and synagogue. Our next stop is nearby Philadelphia which was referred to as the “New Jerusalem” in the Book of Revelation. Not much is left of the city except for the ancient wall and the remains of a Byzantine Basilica in the modern city of Alasehir. Then proceed to Pamukkale. Transfer to hotel for check-in and overnight. Overnight in Pamukkale.
Day 5 Pamukkale-Hierapolis-Laodicea (B/L/D)
Breakfast and check-out at the hotel. We will visit Hierapolis, meaning “Sacred City”, was an ancient center for pagan cults until it was transformed into a Christian center in the first century. According to tradition, the Apostle Philip lived and was martyred in Hierapolis. It was likely the hot springs of Hierapolis in contrast to the cold mountain springs near Colossae that combined to bring application to the “lukewarm” Laodeceans (Rev. 3:14-22). This connection between the cities lies behind Paul’s reference to Hierapolis and Laodicea in his epistle to the Colossians (Col. 4:13). See the famous white calcium cascades of Pamukkale (the white “Cotton Castles”. Continue on to Laodicea, a city that contains many acres of ruins including a stadium and remnants of a sophisticated water system. Christianity came during the time of St. Paul, brought by Epharas of Colossae. Laodicea became the seat of Bishopric and hosted an important Ecumenical Council in the 4th century AD. It was named in the Revelations as one of the Seven Churches of the Apocalypse. Overnight in Pamukkale.
Day 6 Pamukkale- Konya - Cappadocia ( B&L&D) 615 KM
After breakfast,drive to Konya. Arrive Konya and visit to the Mevlana Museum. Konya was the center of the Selcuk Empire as well as the city of Mevlana and famous for his Whirling Dervishes dance( all white garments and long red hat )then drive to Cappadocia.We will visit a 13th century Tepesidelik Han Caravanserai, a "hotel" for ancient traders and travellers. Dinner and Overnight in Cappadocia.
Day 7 Cappadocia( B&L&D)
The tour starts with Love Valley where you can discover the spectacular rock formations, magical fairy chimnies and our guide tells you about history of Cappadocia and volcanic formation of fairy chimnies. We will visit Carpet School.After you will visit the Pasabaglari ( known as a Fairy Chimney Valley ) and you have chance to see many fairy chimnies with one body and multiple caps and then we drive to Avanos town famous with potteries from Hittities period.The lunch is optional and we spend approximately one hour for the lunch.After lunch we drive to Devrent Valley where you can see various types of fairy chimnies like mushroom shape and animal shape and then we through to Ürgup and Ortahisar rock-cut castle to watch view of old Greek house which was built in 1800s.After watch the best view of Cappadocia we drive to Goreme Open Air Museum is a place where you can visit carved churches and chapels and monasteries.The churches were painted with frecoes from between 10th and 13th centuries.Overnight in Cappadocia.
Day 8 Departure to IST at TBA Cappadocia-Istanbul –Depart Country(B) Domestic Flight; TBA
