About Turkey

Turkey known officially as the Republic of Turkey , is a Eurasian country located in Western Asia (mostly in the Anatolian peninsula) and in East Thrace in Southeastern Europe.

The surface area of Turkey is 814.578 square kilometers. The European and the Asian continents are separated by the Sea of Marmora, Bosphorus and the Dardanelles. Turkey is surrounded by sea on three sides, with the seashore length of Turkey amounting to 8333 kms. It is possible to enjoy the four seasons at a time. She is like a mosaic made of different geographical features.

Turkey is named “ the Cradle of Civilizations” and tourists feel exactly what it means immediately after their visit. Çatalhöyük, the first settlement discovered so far dates back to 6500 BC. The ancient cities and historical sites spreading around Turkey are a clear evidence that.many civilizations such as the Hittites, Ions, Byzantines, Seljuks, Persians, Macedonians  left their traces on these culturally rich territories.

Turkey has been the scene where many miraculous events took place. For example,  Mustafa Kemal Atatürk- a towering figure of the 20th Century founded the  Republic of Turkey out of the remnants of the Ottoman Empire, which during World War I. was on the verge of collapsing. Following the foundation of the Republic, an economic boom and a process of westernization was in progress. Turkey is on the way to improving herself with Atatürk’s principle in mind, that is, “ Peace at home, peace in the world”.


The official language of Turkey is Turkish, a Ural-Altaic language. Turkish is spoken by nearly 150 million people around the world. The Latin alphabet is the writing system in use

Turkish cuisine is one of the world’s most popular cuisines. The variety of foods, cooking methods and the way tables are set are the key elements of its fame around the globe.
